Schauer Angus, owned by Bryant and Doug Schauer and their families, hosted a good crowd for their annual bull sale at Faith Livestock. It is very gratifying to watch the progress of this program through their customers’ results. Many customers return each year to bid on the Schauer bulls.

The Schauers have developed a herd of Angus cattle that are deep-bodied, long sided, and just weigh heavy. The dispositions of these bulls on sale day were excellent.

Bryant and Doug have used generations of AI to establish a cow herd base that is rich in maternal genetics. They have also used some embryo transfers to expand the genes of some of the top cows in the breed.

I felt that this was one of the best set of bulls that the Schauers have ever brought to town. They were long and thick, and just a tremendous set of bulls. Some of the top sires in this herd include SAV Final Answer 0035, Whitestone Cisco Kid Z120, Mohnen Long Distance 1639, Soo Line Motive 9016, and Kesslers Frontman R001. There was also a nice selection of two-year-old bulls at this sale.

Top selling bull of the day was Lot 1, selling for $9,500 to repeat buyer Denny Topf, Charter Oak, IA. This bull was a son of SAV Final Answer 0035, and out of a daughter of GDAR Game Day 449 who was a first calf heifer. With a birth weight of 68 pounds, he weaned at 792 pounds and had an actual sale day weight of 1240 pounds. He measured a 37.5 cm. scrotum and had a ribeye area of 16.2 square inches. His EPDs were BW -2.1, WW 63, MILK 26 and YW 109. He ranked in the top 2% of the Angus breed for both BW EPD and WW EPD.

Lot 2 was another son of Final Answer 0035, andhe was out of a daughter of Mytty In Focus. This bull was really long-bodied and out of the donor cow, Schauer Forever Lady IF 035. His EPDs included BW 0.3, WW 60, MILK 27 and YW 101. Born at 82 pounds, he weaned at 784 pounds, and posted a present day weight of 1300 pounds. At $8,500, he also sold to Denny Topf.

Another popular bull was Lot 59, a 2-year-old son of TC Aberdeen 759. This bull weighed 72 pounds at birth and was out of a daughter of Sitz Alliance 6595. He had an actual weaning weight of 708 pounds with EPDs of BW 0.4, WW 48, MILK 33 and YW 90. This good bull was purchased for $5,500 by Jiggs Biegler, Timber Lake, SD.

Lot 3 was also sired by Final Answer, and he was out of a daughter of Leachman New Design 878-4570. He sold to Denny Topf for $5,250. His stats included an 84 pound birth weight, and a weaning weight of 732 pounds to ratio 107. His EPDs were BW 0.2, WW 52, MILK 31 and YW 92.

Repeat buyer Jason Grubl, Red Owl, SD, bought Lot 33 at $5,250. This son of Soo Line Motive 9016 was out of a daughter of TC Aberdeen 759. He had a 78 pound birth weight, and a weaning weight of 775 pounds to ratio 114. His EPDs of BW 0.2, WW 59, MILK 26 and YW 107 completed the package.

Stop by the Schauer Ranch. Good prospects for next year’s sale are already hitting the ground.
