Schauer Angus

March 21, 2011

A beautiful day with temperatures in the 60-degree range greeted the crowd gathered at Faith, SD, to bid on the outstanding set of Angus bulls presented by Doug and Bryant Schauer, owners of Schauer Angus. It was a beautiful day with snow melting and water running in every draw.

Bryant Schauer has built his program around producing better females – females that have extra dimension of body so that they can survive a rough South Dakota winter. This year’s bulls were presented in rather modest flesh, but they were extremely sound on their feet and legs. These cattle are bred to be very maternal with a lot of performance in their background

The Schauers offer a few two-year-old bulls every year, and this set was outstanding and very well received.

Beyond breeding better cattle, customer satisfaction is their number-one priority. All you have to do is listen to a few of their repeat buyers to see why they keep coming back.

Top selling bull of the day was Lot 5, a yearling bull sired by SAV Final Answer 0035. He was out of a daughter of Leachman New Design 878-4570 who was a first calf heifer, and she ratioed 125 on this good bull. Hitting the ground at 83 lbs., he weaned at 802 lbs. with EPDs of BW +0.7, WW +59, Milk +29 and YW +100. He sold for $8,000 to repeat buyer Denny Topf from Charter Oak, IA.

Repeat buyer Irving Jordan from Faith, SD, chose Lot 1 as his top selection. At $6,000, this son of Leachman Right Time was out of ALC Forever Lady E51P, a daughter of Connealy Freightliner. He had a birth weight of 88 lbs., a weaning weight of 816 lbs., and a yearling weight of 1,275 lbs. He posted EPDs of BW +1.7, WW +50, Milk +20 and YW +87.

The top selling two-year-old bull was Lot 51, selling for $5,500 to Russell Simons from Marcus, SD. He was a son of SS Objective T510 and out of a daughter of Connealy Dateline. He weaned at 777 lbs. to ratio 109 and had EPDs of BW +1.2, WW +55, Milk +22 and YW +97.

Denny Topf also purchased Lot 7 at $5,250, a bull by SAV Final Answer. His mother was a daughter of Leachman New Design 878-4570, and he had an 87-lb. birth weight. He weaned at 701 lbs.

The Lot 10 bull was another son of SAV Final Answer 0035, and he sold to Roger Aberle from Mobridge, SD, for $5,250. His EPDs were BW +2.1, WW +52, Milk +26 and YW +89.

Lot 53, a two-year-old bull, sold to Denny Topf for $5,000. He was yet another son of SAV Final Answer.

One of the best sales ever for Doug and Bryant Schauer, and their glazed doughnuts are worth a 60-mile drive.
